It's Been a (Long) While

So I know I haven't blogged in a while. School's a bitch. But I figured I'd do some updating on my mini-break.
I was on the AP website today reading Mike Shea's story on the next break through band, and realised that I'm actually very displeased with the direction the music industry is moving in.
For one thing, I'm so over these cookie cutter bands. I pray to God there's not another band like All Time Low or 3Oh3 on the verge of "breaking through". I mean, there's only so much you can take! It was fun for a while, but we NEED something fresh in the music world. It's like in order to make it in the music industry you have to sound like bands a, b, and c, or you sit your ass on the sidelines and shut up. What happened to the diversity in music? Where are all the Nirvanas? I actually wouldn't even mind if emo made a comeback...anything but more of the same; anything but power pop!
Also, I'm really hating that the industry has gotten to the point where artists aren't even releasing actual albums anymore. Everything is moving over to the Internet, and there's just no real relationship between the listener and the music anymore. Music has kind of faded into the background, and it's really sad, because music is a profound thing. In fact, its one of the most powerful things in the world. I just don't want music to completely become impersonal. and I think with the way things are going, it won't be long before music is no longer necessary, and falls to the wayside.
Music is in desperate need of a savior. Hopefully, it won't be long now before a genius comes along and fixes all that's wrong, because a lot of people are really starting to hate this downhill spiral we're in. Maybe it's just a rut? Things always look better in the morning, right?

Brittany Murphy

We've all heard by now that the beloved Clueless actress, Brittany Murphy, passed away yesterday. This is absolutely insane and so very tragic. It's always tragic when someone so young dies, but when it's presumed that it was from natural causes, it makes it that much worse. There is no reason that someone under the age of 60 should die from natural causes.
I know I haven't posted in a while, not that anyone reads my blog or even cares, but I'm going to be more diligent in posting on here, no matter how lame Jenelle thinks it is (I should be in the clear as long as I don't start talking about random pictures of junk in my sister's room). I felt compelled to write today, in light of the tragic news.
Brittany Murphy is one of my favorite actresses, even though a lot of people think she's not that great. There aren't many actresses as versatile as her. Who else can go from playing a ditz (Clueless) to a coke head (Spun)? And actually pull it off?
Some of her most memorable roles were in Girl, Interrupted, which was an amazing movie; and Don't Say A Word, another brilliant film.
Being a lover of Indie films, my favorite movie with her would have to be Spun. This movie was amazing and Brittany Murphy did an awesome job in it. However, it's not a movie you can sit down and watch with your mom and little sister. The plot may turn some people off, but if you can get past it, then you'll love this movie too. I urge you to check out the trailer and go buy the movie. It's pretty hard to find, but not impossible. You might be able to find it on the website for the movie.

Today started off rather slow. It seemed to drag on for days. I'm finally done with everything that absolutely needs to be done at the moment. I took advantage of the awesome FBR sale. 50% off on most stuff!! I heard some awesome music news today. Weezer and Paramore will be headlining Bamboolze this year! If only I lived on the east coast. I'm actually contemplating buying plane tickets for a friend and me and flying to Jersey just for the show.

On a more solemn note, Scary Kids Scaring Kids officially broke up today. They will be doing their final tour, starting in January.

I'll leave you with my most anticipated albums of 2010 (and the rest of '09)

30 Seconds to Mars- This Is War (Dec 8)
Vampire Weekend- Contra (Jan 12)
Motion City Soundtrack- My Dinosaur Life (Jan 19)
Circa Survive- TBA (hopefully soon!)
Craig Owens- TBA
My Chemical Romance- TBA
The Academy Is...- TBA
We The Kings- Smile Kid (Dec 8)

Monday Madness

Good evening cyberspace. So today was my first day back to class after 4 days vacation. It was actually quite uneventful. I shan't bore you with all of the nothingness that took place today. However, I did take advantage of the cyber monday deals. I bought every one's Christmas gifts already, and did it all for under $250(very nice!). Any who, not only was today an uneventful day in my life, it was an uneventful day in music, for the most part. The highlight of my day was definitely the news that Craig Owens (formerly of Chiodos) is hard at work on a solo album. I can't wait to hear what it sounds like.
So since nothing much has happened today I'll leave you with my top five songs with "teen" in the title:
5. Teenagers- Hayley Williams
4. Teenage Dirt Bag- Wheatus
3. Teenagers- My Chemical Romance
2. Teenage Riot- Sonic Youth
1. Smells Like Teen Spirit- Nirvana

Well Hello, Hello

It's about 9:05 right now, and I've just made my blog, The Thoughtless Mind. I guess introductions are in order, assuming that anyone will ever read my blog. My name is Cherish. I'm currently a full time student, looking to major in communications. I either want to do music journalism (which is most likely going to be the focus of this blog) or public relations, which would be a totally kick ass job. Music has a special place in my heart. It's a pity I can't sing or play an instrument, otherwise I wouldn't need to blog about music. I would really like to get into photog, but currently lack the funds I need to purchase an SLR, so I'm stuck with a point and shoot. Eventually I'll save up enough money to get a real camera.
It's 9:11 now, and since I have class tomorrow I shall leave you with my favorite quote and be on my way.
Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally. ~David Frost
